Northern Chautauqua Amateur Radio Club
J O I N T H E N C A R C
The Northern Chautauqua Amateur Radio Club is looking for a few more members who are
interested in Radio Communications. We are a group of friendly, family oriented radio operators
who are seeking additional interested folks who would like to expand their radio experience
and communications activities.
We'd like to invite you to take a look at the Club, as we've made some exciting new additions & updates.
Some of the highlights of the Clubs new updates & additions include:
1.- Major improvements and additions at the W2SB 146.625 repeater in Pomfret to include:
-
A new repeater radio (Yaesu DR-1X Fusion Dual Mode Analog FM/Fusion).

Installation of a NetGear LM1200 4G-LTE Modem for Fusion Mode internet access,
with a 4G-LTE WiFi Antenna & Coax Cable. -
A complete rebuild of the Backup Battery Power Supply system, and a new H.D. power supply.
-
Installation of a TripLite I-BAR 26D Power Surge Protector.
-
Installation of a Polyphaser IS-50UX Lightning Arrester.
-
A professional re-tuning of the 4 Can Duplexer by TX-RX Systems.
-
We are established an Allstar node with the W2SB 146.625 Pomfret repeater.
-
Maintaining the former repeater radios (Two ICOM IC-F121S) in the rack for immediate backup use.
-
Maintaining the former Wet Cell Car Battery system as an additional backup power supply.
-
This repeater has an exceptional radio footprint, covering from Erie, PA north up to Buffalo
along the Lake Erie basin plain.
2.- Major updates and additions at the KD2MNA 147.195 Fredonia College Repeater include:

Installation of an ICOM ID-2010V VHF Dual Mode Analog FM / D-Star Repeater radio
-
A new 30 Amp Power Supply for the repeater radio
-
Installation of a NetGear LM1200 4G-LTE Modem for D-Star Mode internet access, with a 4G-LTE WiFi Antenna & Coax Cable
-
This repeater has a good coverage area in the northern Chautauqua County region.
3.- We also sponsor our W2SB 70 cm. UHF FM Repeater on 444.35 MHz (PL: 88.5 Hz) at the Pomfret Repeater site
that has coverage in the Dunkirk / Fredonia region.
4.- Both our General Meetings and Board of Directors Meetings can be attended via Zoom.

Our General Meetings are open to anyone and can be attended either in person or via Zoom

Our General Meetings are held:
Where: The Fredonia Center for Innovation & Economic Development, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk, NY near the Railroad overpass bridge.
Lighted parking is available in the rear of the building accessible from Washington Ave. Enter the double doors & take the ADA Access Elevator or stairs to the Second Floor Video Conference room and join our open meeting.
Our General Club Meetings are also available online via Zoom (check our message board for Zoom access info.)
When: Every 2nd Thursday at 7 pm.

Our Board of Directors Business Meetings are held only via Zoom (check our message board for Zoom access info.)
When: Every 1st Thursday at 7 pm.
Where: The Board Meetings are not held in person, but only on the internet via Zoom. All members can attend.
5.- Our General Meetings include a "Program" or "Show-N-Tell" segment to promote interest in attending meetings and learning,
not just boring, mundane business discussions.
6.- We have monthly Breakfasts (or sometimes Lunches) in the Dunkirk-Fredonia restaurant community to promote member comradery and socialization on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Check our Event Calendar or Message Board for times & restaurant location.
7.- Members can use our Groups.io Message Board to stay informed on upcoming meetings, Club operating events, Club news, etc.
8.- We also have a FaceBook Page where Club Members & others can post about ham radio experiences, events & news of interest to ham's.
9.- We've become more "Event" oriented, participating in the following operating events & contests:

ARRL Field Days weekend, pairing with the CCAFMA Club for some radio fun

ARRL VHF Contest at Lunesman's Park overlooking Lake Erie northward into Canada
-
ARRL NYS QSO Party at individual members home stations
-
International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend (ILLW) Lighthouse activation at the Barcelona Lighthouse near Westfield, NY
-
Periodic POTA (Parks-on-the-Air) activation's at local State Parks, State Forests & Wildlife Management Areas around WNY.

The club is a member of the "Straight Key Century Club" (SKCC), which promotes CW activity with monthly 2 hr. Sprints (SKCC No. 29942)

Some members are also "SkyWARN" Trained Observers, and our W2SB 146.625 Pomfret Repeater is a registered SkyWARN Reporting repeater with the Buffalo NWS Office.
10.- We are in discussions and planning about looking into local Meshtastic/MeshCore communications, installing a new Mesh Solar Repeater Node
at the W2SB Pomfret site for public use, setting up an APRS Beacon, connecting the W2SB VHF Pomfret repeater to AllStar & other fun radio projects.
11.- Our Club supports RACES & ARES EMCOM activities in the community, like "Pumpkin Patrol" on Halloween night, and other RACES activities. We are also an ARRL Affiliated Club, but you don't need to be an ARRL Member to join the NCARC !
12.- We promote interests with other radio related activities, like Short Wave Listening (SWL), CB / GMRS / FRS Radio, Scanner Monitoring,
AM / FM DXing, Electronics & Antenna Construction Projects and other "radio-active" modes of fun.
Please consider joining the NCARC to help you elevate your radio hobby to the maximum enjoyment level and to support our local club & community. We can offer you assistance, advice & “Elmer” mentoring with any radio related questions that you may have.
We have lowered our annual membership fee to an insane $10 per year, plus $1 for each additional Family Member, with FREE 1 year memberships for Students and newly licensed hams.
An "Associate" level membership can be offered to anyone wishing to be a club member, but cannot afford annual dues.
